SunVest Acquires 40MW Solar Portfolio in Illinois and Minnesota

Long-term partnerships with sellers remain central to collaborative growth strategy

Chicago, Illinois – Leading independent power producer SunVest today announced the acquisition of seven community solar projects totaling nearly 40 megawatts (MW) from two project developers. Spanning Xcel Energy, Ameren and ComEd utility territories, the transactions build on long-standing relationships between the parties and expand SunVest’s presence in Illinois and Minnesota.

Expected to reach Notice to Proceed (NTP) by the end of 2026 or Q1 2027, the projects advance SunVest’s strategy to grow through acquisitions of distributed solar and storage assets. The companies closed all seven deals in rapid succession, with the final five acquisitions closing in less than five weeks, highlighting SunVest’s accelerated growth strategy and execution capabilities.

“Acquiring high-quality projects from our developer partners is central to our growth strategy,” said Bram Walters, CEO of SunVest. “We see tremendous opportunity to continue partnering with developers seeking the capital, financing expertise, and execution capabilities to bring their projects across the finish line.”

Included in this portfolio is Sunvest’s first acquisition from new partner Horizon Solar Power, a leading Midwest developer.

“We have collaborated with SunVest on legislative matters previously, and we are thrilled to have now closed on this project partnership as well,” said Horizon Managing Director Joe Borkowski. “We have been impressed by SunVest’s thoroughness and professionalism and look forward to working with them on these projects and others throughout the country.”

The acquisition highlights SunVest’s focus on both new and long-standing partnerships. Its operating portfolio extends across Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Hawaii, with significant pipeline in other states. SunVest is tracking toward NTP on 250 MW of solar capacity across over 60 projects in 2026.

“These sellers include folks we’ve worked with for several years, as well as first-time partners. We are excited to advance these projects toward construction,” said Alison Ernst, Vice President of Development at SunVest. “Long-term relationships are fundamental to our business, and we’re actively seeking new partners with quality projects who can benefit from our development expertise and financial strength.”
